The year was 1997, and my good friend from college, Bret Mason, was set to be married in June. I paid him a visit in Vero Beach, FL that spring, at which time I rode around like a mad dog on his personal watercraft. This is one of the last pictures in existence showing me with this particular length of hair, although it's hard to tell here.

Later, just after Bret & Jill's wedding (Bret's the friendly guy on the left), the camera captured a scandalous moment. We've been friends since our DJ days at college, and I guess he realized he was about to lose his freedom! As a bonus, we get to see a closer look at the freak-hair.

Just a week or so before Bret got married, I met one Elizabeth Gedgoudas. Since Bret's event made me a hopeless romantic, I moved quickly to lock in a date or two with her. Beth graduated from the U of A Business School just a few weeks later in August. If I look uncomfortable, it's because the person taking the photo is one of Beth's parents (who at this point I barely knew). Then again, it's hard to tell...I almost always look uncomfortable in photos.

I was then introduced to Bailey, I think primarily as a distraction for me while Beth finshed getting ready for our dates (SIDEBAR: Do women EVER get ready on time?). It worked beautifully, as I felt I'd finally found someone who could truly understand me. NO, I meant Beth understood me, so I naturally fell in love with Bailey, too! Isn't she adorable? Like puppies tend to do, though, she got somewhat bigger. Now she's just plain goofy sometimes, but that's okay. She's a good dog, better than any security system we could buy (i.e. very noisy when strangers come around).

Life sped along at a lightning pace after that, and soon we were inseparable (Beth and I were, that is...though I like Bailey too). We attended multiple high-society events during the holiday season. I don't have any pictures of the other one.
