2006 Season

Bowling Green in Middleton, and Olbrich Park in Madison, WI

A long time ago, on a ball field not so far away...

In the summer of 1979, having just completed 6th grade, Greg Lou Gehrig rounded up 11 other classmates to play fast pitch softball at Bowling Green in the afternoons, after playing baseball in the Madison morning leagues.

Once in high school, he added more classmates to the team. After graduating from high school, Greg took his team to the men's leagues at Bowling Green on Monday nights, and the Madison leagues on Tuesday nights, eventually making it in to the top fast pitch league in Madison. One of the highlights still talked about is the 3-0 victory over the very famous and very talented Farm Tavern. Paul Esenther pitched the victory.

Over the years the team has had several sponsors and names. Starting out as Rite-Way Leasing, the Falcons have also been called Kool & the Gang, Gehrig's Racing, Stephan & Brady, Fisher Concrete, Wilson's Bar, Donkle Construction, 3 Star, and finally, for the past three years, Gehrig Falcons.

Nowadays the team can be found at Bowling Green on Wednesday nights, while still playing at Olbrich on Tuesdays. Older, slower, but still having fun, the Falcons will be around for a long time.
