The
3 levels of practice
1st
Level Basic
At
this level the attacker’s movements are slow about 20%, fast enough for
the defender to internalize them and also to react within the parameters
appropriate to the technique that is being practiced at the time. The attacker
has no intention what so ever and the attack looks very unreal so much that
indeed some observers would express that the attacker is pulling the punches.
The
defender knows before hand what attacks will be forthcoming. This is necessary
to help the student understand the lesson.
This
is done with no protective equipment obviously because there is almost no danger
or anyone being hurt.
2nd Level Intermediate
At this level the
attacker’s movements are roughly 40 percent faster and the defender still
knows before hand what attacks will be forthcoming. The attacker now has
definite intentions of striking the target and it is up to the defender to
execute
proper body movements to evade the attacks within the technique’s
parameters.
This is or may be done with protective equipment obviously because there is a
slight possibility of injury.
3rd Level
Advanced
At
this level the attacker’s movements are as fast as it is desired, and the
exercise happens
within the context of a sparring session that consists of an attacker and a defender who has three or more attacks to defend against although he does
not know which one is coming and when it will happen. The mind starts to adjust
to 3 possible
attacks
and later on more. The grade of difficulty is increased until the attacker can
attack with any attack desired ant any time.
This
is done with protective equipment obviously because there is possibility of
injury. At no time is safety relinquished for the sake of reality but the
practice at
This
level is committed to keep the attack as real as possible and still have a
valuable
lesson. Contact is the goal but not injury.
This
3 levels can be practiced at any time by all students with the 2nd
and 3rd level reserved for more experienced practitioners with at least
80 hours of training.
Black
belt sessions are done at
2nd and 3rd level only.
