The Spencer Family Burying Ground
is located about six miles South of Spencertown, New York.  It is not easy to find. Other small old cemeteries in the area are in good repair but not this one. When we visited the site in April 1998 we found that no one has maintained the site in years. Trees had grown up around some of the stones, others were tipped over and otherwise disturbed, and some have been stolen.

I wish the picture could be clearer for you but you can see the disarray of the stones, as well as the small deciduous trees growing everywhere in the cemetery.

The slate stones were chipped, but the entact areas were perfectly legible.
In this picture I am pointing to the small headstone of Truman Powell Sr.
This is the Headstone of Elizabeth Powell.  I have determined that it was incorrectly quoted.
