League Policies

Home Run Rule
As of 2008, our League has chosen to enforce ASA Rule #5.8.3 for Church Leagues which is a home run rule limiting over the fence home runs to 4 per game. Subsequent over the fence home runs result in the batter being declared out and the ball being dead.

Forfeits
Please notify the President and the other team ASAP if you may not have enough players at a game. The League will attempt to reschedule the game if enough notice is given; at least 24 hours notice is needed.

Game Cancellations
Expect the game to be played.   Go to the field unless informed that the game has been canceled.    If games are to be canceled by the League, the decision will be made by 4:00 p.m. of the day of the game and the coaches will be notified by this time (i.e. at the minimum, a league-wide e-mail will be sent). All coaches, both head coaches and assistant coaches, will be requested to reply to this e-mail so that the President will know who did or did not receive the notification.

Note: Do not rely on the web site to be updated on such short notice. Although this would be great if feasible, there is no access to update this web site from my work location (due to firewall restrictions).

If the game is not canceled by the League, then the determination will be made at the field according to ASA rules. These rules are that coaches can agree to cancel the game before it starts, else the umpire can cancel the game at any time (either before it starts or during the game).

Issues at the Game
Report the following to the League President: umpire not at game, field problems (e.g. lights), protests, any other significant issues

Scheduling Requests
It is our desire to accomodate each team's needs and desires as far as when and where games are played. To assist in this, scheduling requests should be made to the President by the defined date. In the past, the League has been able to honor almost all scheduling requests.

Ejections
Should a player be ejected from the game for reasons of behavior, our League policy is to suspend the player for the next game.   If the player wishes to appeal the suspension, then the appeal must be made to the League President by Tuesday of the following week. The facts will be gathered and a decision made typically within a day but possibly within two days.   In order for there not to be a suspension, the player must show that the ejection was either unreasonable or that there were extenuating circumstances.

Softballs
Our League uses a .44 core, 375 compression, 12-inch, optic-colored (lime green) softball. This is the highest core and compression softball generally available in the 12-inch size.

Dues
Teams that do not meet in full their financial responsibilities to the League by the deadline set by the President will officially forfeit subsequent games until those financial responsibilities are met. The game should still be played. However, the official result will be a forfeit. The financial deadline is typically 5:00 p.m. on the 3rd Friday of the season.

E-mail
E-mail addresses are not to be used for non-League business. Exceptions can be granted by the President or Vice-President for items deemed to be of interest and value to the coaches.

Use of League Monies
The Greater Nashua Men's Evangelical Softball League is a non-profit League. All monies received by the League are to be used for expenses directly related to operating the League. Uses of League monies apart from this are not allowed.

Pinkerton Academy Field Use Policies

Pinkerton Academy has asked us to follow these rules when playing on their field:

  • There is a beautiful, new (as of 2008) Pinkerton field we have been asked to use. It is across the street (heading east across Bypass 28) and south from the gym, just beyond the student parking lots. The softball field to use (north field) is the field closer to the gym unless there are problems (such as from the sun) in which case the south field can be used.
  • Cars may be parked in either parking lot near the northern field, or on the road between these parking lots in the designated parking spots. Cars are not be parked inside the gate to the field (which is typically closed and locked). Cars are also not to be parked in the lot near the far, southern field which has an administration building since parking is limited near the building and may be needed for night time meetings.
  • Of course, Pinkerton games take priority over Church League games. Girls softball plays every Friday at 4:30 with half of the games at home on the field that will be used by the Church League.
  • If there is water on the field, it should be left as is and not swept off. No exceptions! If the water would be detrimental to play, then the teams can choose not to play on the field.
  • All holes should be filled in after the game, particularly around home plate and the pitchers mound. Use the dirt around the area to fill in the hole; holes should presumably be very small since all teams are responsible for filling them in after use.
  • Pick up any trash in the area.
  • No smoking or drinking on school grounds.
  • No pets allowed.
  • Avoid any behavior that is unnecessarily risky or inappropriate or that would damage equipment.
