Traveling Life’s Highway
Introduction:
A. Have you ever taken a road trip?
1. Maybe you did or did not know your destination when you began
2. You may have encountered some obstacles, maybe some detours
3. Did you take a map?
4. You probably crossed a river, or traveled through a tunnel
B. These are all important factors when traveling
C. These things are also important consideration while traveling life’s highway
I. Choose the Right Path
A. The Bible is your road map
B. Our path is godliness, Col. 3:1-20 gives us directions for our path
1. We should desire to be godly Col. 3:1-3
2. We must put aside sinful practices Col. 3:5-8
3. Be renewed in His image Col. 3:9, 10
4. This will keep you on the path of godliness Col. 3:12-15
5. By doing so we bring glory to
II. Be Sure of Your Destination
A. Is your destination Heaven?
B. Jesus has prepared a place for you John 14:1-3
C. Remember that nothing can keep you from your destination Rom. 8:31-39
III. Stay Out of the Ditch
A. A mentor of mine used to always say, “Keep it between the ditches and shiny side up”
B. The lines on a road are boundaries; they are there to keep you out of the ditch
C. The ditch is sin, it is Satan’s trap
1. He makes cunning plans to deceive 2 Cor. 2:10, 11
2. He makes false promises Gen. 3:5
3. He may even quote some scripture Matt. 4:6
E. How to withstand Satan
1. Put on the whole armor of God Eph. 6:10, 11
2. Draw near to God James 4:7-10
F. Your traveling companions may drag you into the ditch
1. 1 Cor. 15:33, 34 Bad companions corrupt good morals
2. That is why it is so important to surround yourself with Christians
G. By being a good example, you can help keep others out of the ditch
. 1 Tim. 4:12 “Let know man despise thy youth; but be thou an example to the belivers, in
word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity”
IV. Walk on the Bridges
A. The guidance of parents
1. Prov. 1:8, 9
2. Prov. 23:22, 23
3. Col. 3:20 “Children obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord”
Conclusion:
A. Though the road may be hard at times, the destination is worth the journey. Keep your eyes on the prize. Never lose your sense of direction.
B. One day, we will be safely home!
