Two Conversions in Acts 8
“Searching the Scriptures”

Introduction:
     A. In Acts 8 we find two accounts of conversion as the result of the evangelistic
          work of Philip
     B. In this account we see examples of two different kinds of evangelism
          1. Preaching to the many  (Samaria)
          2. One-on-one evangelism (the Ethiopian Eunuch)
     C. The same message is taught in both instances
          1. Jesus was taught (vv. 5, 35)
          2. What does teaching Jesus involve?
               a. It would have to involve the teaching of the crucifixion
               b. It would have to involve the doctrines taught by Jesus
     D. The same result was accomplished
          1. People responded to the teaching of Jesus
          2. Souls were saved
     E. The same effect was experienced
          1. Samaria “There was great joy in the city” (v 8)
          2. The Ethiopian Eunuch “he went on his way rejoicing” (v 39)
I. Philip in Samaria
     A. Philip  “went” to Samaria and  “preached Christ unto them”
     B. We should see the need to “go”  Mark 16:15
     C. We should preach the gospel of Christ Mark 16;16
     D. We should preach only the gospel of Christ 1 Cor. 2:1-5
     E. Some may “fall away” and be lost
          1. Not “once saved always saved”
          2. Fallen away can be restored through confession, repentance, and prayer

II. Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
     A. Philip left the many for the one (and he arose and went) v 27
     B. Philip “preached unto him Jesus” (v 35)
     C. The Eunuch was baptized
           1. He confessed his faith
            2. He was immediately baptized (no waiting)
            3. Baptism is immersion, both went into the water
     D. He went on his way rejoicing

Conclusion:
The gospel, the message of “Christ and Him crucified” can bring joy to your life as
it did those in Acts 8. Jesus said that if you will believe in Him and be baptized you will be
saved. If you haven’t yet obeyed Him, won’t you do so today?
