At His Feet

Introduction:

     A. The Bible records a number of incidents in which people fall at the feet of Jesus

     B. This is a display of subjection and obeisance

     C. Jesus is God (John 1:1) and must be approached reverently and humbly

     D. In a sense, we fall at the feet of Jesus when we submit to Him James 4:10

     E. Let us look at some things that are found when we fall at His feet

 

  I. Comfort

     A. John 11:32

           1. Lazarus had died

           2. Martha had gone out to meet Jesus and reported to Mary that Jesus had come

           3. When Mary approached Jesus, she fell at His feet

           4. In her distress, Mary submitted herself to the power of Jesus

     B. 1 Peter 5:6,7 Humble yourself to God and He will bear your burdens

           1. Humility is a prerequisite to approaching God

           2. Many are casual in their prayers to God

           3. Some are defiant toward God when they suffer

     C. Rev. 1:17, 18 John fell at the feet of Jesus, then Jesus comforted him

 

 II. Healing

     A. Matt. 5:22- 43

           1. Jairus was a ruler of the synagogue

           2. He was a man of religious prominence and prestige

           3. His daughter was deathly sick, he was desperate

           4. He approached Jesus, fell at His feet, and pleaded for Jesus to heal his daughter

           5. It was reported that the daughter had died, but Jesus raised her and made her well

     B. Matt. 15:29-31 The sick are laid at Jesus’ feet and He heals them

     C. Luke 8:26-35 The man possessed with Legion

           1. Notice the manner in which the man affronts Jesus while possessed

           2. After he is healed and cleansed of the demons, he is found at the feet of Jesus

 

III. Teaching

     A. In Luke 10:39 we find Martha and Mar in the presence of Jesus

           1. Martha is concerned about the trivial things of life

           2. Mary is concerned with the bread of life John 6:35

           3. Many are starving spiritually while busy about the things of this world

 

 IV. Forgiveness

     A. In Luke 7:37 we find Jesus in the house of Simon

           1. A woman who is a sinner stands at His feet

           2. She washes His feet with her tears, dries them with her hair, and anoints them

           3. In verse 48 Jesus says to her, “Thy sins are forgiven thee”

     B. Luke 23:33, 34 The ultimate act of forgiveness

 

Conclusion: Will you fall at the feet of Jesus today?
