I know I need to be saved. What must I do?
(Acts 2:37-38 KJV)  "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? {38} Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

Those present in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost (this was the beginning of the Lord's church) asked the same question. The answer is very simple. Peter is speaking with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He says you must first repent of your sins, that means turn away from the life of sin. He then says to "be baptized for the remission of sins". It is that simple! But, you may ask, how can being baptized save me? It there magic in the water? No, there is no magic in the water. There is something much more powerful taking place here. By being baptized, you enter into a symbolic act of obedience to God. You are demonstrating your faith in Him by submitting to His will. In the act of baptism, you participate in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ by dying to sin (repentance), being buried in the water, and being raised up to walk a new life.

You can have a new life!
(Rom 6:3-4 KJV)  "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? {4} Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."

It is one of the ironies of Christianity that you must die to live. Not die physically, but die spiritully to that old life of sin and guilt. Only then can you live the new life that you start when you put Christ on in baptism.

So, what is stopping you?
(Acts 8:36-38 NKJV)  "Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?" {37} Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." {38} So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him."

This wonderful account of the conversion of the Ethiopian gives us a great example of one who heard the Gospel of Christ (Romans 10:17), believed (Romans 10:9), repented of his sins (Acts 2:38), confessed Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9), and was baptized for the forgiveness of his sins (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3,4; 1 Peter 3:21). He realized the urgency of the need to be baptized. He did not wait, nor did he claim to be saved now and baptized later (no such claim is ever made in the Bible). He said "Why can't I be baptized, RIGHT NOW?" (paraphrased, emph. mine).

Are you still not sure that you need to be baptized to be saved? Are you willing to honestly believe the Bible?
(1 Pet 3:18-21 NASB)  "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; {19} in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, {20} who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. {21} And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you-- not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience-- through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,"

Now, that settles it....doesn't it?
