Our Church's History

The First Pentecostal Church is located in the city of Slidell, Louisiana, one of the fastest growing cities in the fastest growing parish (St. Tammany) in the state.  It was originally planted and pastored by Brother Fred Hyde, who went on to found Spirit of Freedom Ministries in Metairie, Louisiana.  This first photograph shows our humble beginnings.  The church was not much more than a small sanctuary and an office.

In keeping with the community, the church has been evolving and growing too.  Additional classrooms, restrooms, a kitchen and offices were added, and  the sanctuary was expanded.  The Lord has kept adding to the congregation greatly and we have outgrown the present facilities.  Brother Eugene Wellington founded T.E.A.M. (The El-Bethel Apostolic Ministry).  Originally an evangelistic outreach ministry, it soon began to harvest numbers of souls.  T.E.A.M. was also our first presence on the Internet.  Brother Wellington later was ordained and started a sister work called The El-Bethel Tabernacle on the south side of Slidell.  The Lord has continued to grow and prosper both congregations.

In fact, our congregation was now standing shoulder to shoulder and the santuary was filled to capacity during our Sunday evening services.  The First Pentecostal Church of Slidell has now expanded its worship facilities with the addition of a new worship center.  This new building is a reflection of the church and blessings of God.  The original church building was constructed in 1965 and the church has grown to the capacity of the building.  However, because of limited property, the church had no room for expansion.  In 1997, the Lord opened a door for the church and additional property adjacent to the present church was secured.  This property came as a result of a donation by the A.A. McKinney family.    Below is a picture of our new sanctuary and office building!

This is the interior of the new foyer as seen from the main entry door to the sanctuary.

This is a view inside our new sanctuary. The new platform is much larger than at the original building. The baptistry is elevated above a new choir section and much more room is available on the platform and in the pews.
