On The Way Home

by Deean G. Strecker

If you knew that today would be your last day,
what changes in life would you make?
Would you show more love to family or friends?
Would your goal be to give or to take?

A stranger is standing on the side of the road,
homeless with no where to go.
“Will work for food” is the sign he holds.
Is love the reaction you’d show?

Do you turn your head as you pass him by,
thinking that he’s a disgrace?
Not wishing to see the hidden pain
that’s written all over his face.

If today you knew you were going home,
and Heaven is where you’d live,
would you offer this stranger a helping hand?
I can bet you’d stop and give.

If we live each day as if our last,
many changes in hearts we’d see.
Reliving the past, like the days of Acts,
we would give abundantly.

No one knows the day or hour
when the Lord will take you home.
But, if that day were today, my friend,
what deeds of love have you shown?
