Your Worth

by Deean G. Strecker

Lord, help me to see that my self-worth
is not in who I am or what I do.
But, rather help me to realize, Lord,
who I am in You.

We often judge a person’s value
by looking for occupations that amaze.
Becoming a doctor, lawyer or engineer
Are jobs we think worthy of praise.

Why do we torture ourselves, Lord,
by bragging of all that we've got?
Impressing friends and loved ones
by pretending to be something we're not.

Any honest job a man does in life,
even if its title brings feelings of shame,
if you labor out of love for family or others
Then it’s a job worthy of acclaim.

Those who we think have the most success,
and have topped the corporate ladder;
if you could look deep within their hearts,
You’d see that they are the ones who are sadder.

Job titles do not make a person great,
nor does money bring perfection.
God looks on the heart of every man,
seeking His humble reflection.
