Venues Where the Blackberry Ridge Band Performed

Bars/Lounges

Cambria Pines Lodge
Played from 1978 through 1980, the Cambria Pines Lodge was one of the more formal lounges that we played in.  The lounge had been designed for live performances and consisted of a fairly large stage, by bar standards, complete with a large amount of stage lighting.  The table area went from the foot of the stage all the way back to the bar.  The dance floor was to the patron's left consisting of a large hardwood floor surrounded on three sides by draped walls.  This building burned down afterwards and has been rebuilt into a more contemporary facility.
Camozzi's Saloon (Cambria)
Played for a single Friday night only in 1977 (no record as to when during the year), we choose not to return when the operator of the establishment got upset that we would not play a Saturday night after the Friday even though our contract was for one night only.
Cowboy Saloon (Pismo Beach)
Played only once in 1984, this was the old Rose Garden Ball Room re-done with a fairly large stage, a centralized dance floor and multiple levels of seating working back toward the bar area.
Docs Dance Hall (Cayucos)
Played at in 1981 and 1982, a two story building with a second floor balcony wrapping around the interior of the structure.  The first weekend we played on the second floor to the dance floor on the lower level.  They then built a small stage on the first floor on one of the two long walls along the dance floor.  As of this writing, the structure is currently used as a antique store.
Iron Horse Saloon (Templeton)
A multi-roomed restaurant with a small stage and dance floor between the largest dining room and a back patio.  The band played at this location from 1983 through 1985.  The restaurant is now known as A.J. Spurs.
La Cantina Lounge (Orcutt)
Played in 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1985, a lounge located within the old Oak Knolls Bowling alley, it contained a reasonable sized stage for its size with a split rail fence separating it from the dance floor.  The building has since been rebuilt as an Albertsons.
Muddy Springs Saloon (Paso Robles)
Played upwards of 72 nights from 1976 through 1978, this was the bands first bar gig.  The stage was small, set in a corned with a drum platform wrapped by a three sided lower area with a short knee wall between it and the dance floor.  Muddy was usually a biker bar until we started playing there, during this time it became the haunt of may of the local ranch kids.  Despite its reputation, there were only two fights at the bar in the many nights that we played there.   The building was later demolished and a restaurant now stands at that location.
Park Garage (San Miguel)
Played from 1980 through 1983, the Park Garage was one of the most family run bars that we played at.  The Sullivan's always treated us better than most other establishments and also held annual barbeques at their ranch to treat the bands who played for them.  The stage was located next to the bar with the dance floor in the dining room across from the stage through a sliding barn door.
Railhead Saloon (Santa Margarita)
Played in 1980 and 1981, this building had been converted to a bar with a railed elevated dance floor immediately in front of the slightly higher stage.  The building was later converted to a Moose Lodge.
Ruby Mine Saloon (Jolon)
Just outside the gates to Fort Hunter Liggett Mlitary Reservation, this bard promised to be simiar to the Way Station (see below).  When we arrived for the one weekend in 1984, the crowd consisted mostly families having dinner.  As we set up we started to notice that the dinner crowd was all leaving and by 8:45PM the place was empty.  At our appointed start time the establishment filled with Army PFCs and women of questionable employment.  The crowd seemed to be more into drinking and trouble than dancing, so we choose to not play there again after that weekend.
Templeton Saloon
Played during one year in 1978, this establishment later became Alex's restuarant.
The Way Station (Lockwood)

Played from 1983 through 1985, this bar on one of the access roads to North Shore San Antonio Lake usually had a young lake crowd.
