Gustav
Adolph Jensen
Gustav "Gus" Adolph Jensen (son of Johann
Friedrich Jensen and
Phillippina Kaufman) was born
November 16, 1852 in Eltville, Prussia (Germany) and died July 11, 1940 in Weatherford,
Texas. He married Amelia Mayer February 28, 1875 in New York City, New
York. Amelia Mayer was the daughter of Jacob
Mayer and Catherine Hoffman.
She was born April 15, 1859 in New York City, New York and died June 7, 1927 in
Weatherford, Texas.
Gus Jensen came to the United States at age 17 and 8 months and arrived in
America May 26, 1870 on the ship "Goethe", which sailed from Hamburg, Germany.
His brother Carl Joseph Jensen is thought to have come to America aboard the
same ship with him. Gus lived in New York City working as a barber, a trade he learned
as a boy.
His career as a barber started at age 11 in Germany, at that time he
stood on a box behind the barber chair. He also went from house to house
catering to those with luxurious tastes, shaving them in bed for what amounted to
one cent in American money.
Gus met Amelia Mayer and they were married in New York on February 28, 1875. Gus
was 22 years and 3 months and Amelia was 15 years 10 months of age.
The couple
made their first home in Bridgeport, Connecticut where their first child was
born in the spring of 1876. Joseph Fred Jensen, was born April 5, 1876 ten days
before Amelia's 17th birthday.
Sometime between 1876 and 1878 Gus and Amelia moved to Dallas, Texas where their
second child, George Jensen was born. After residing in Dallas for one year they moved
to Weatherford, Texas
Living in Weatherford, Texas from the early part of 1879 to early 1893 the
Jensens had six (6) more children. Lillie Jensen, born June 24, 1881, LucyJensen
born January 2,
1884, Willie Jensen born January 17, 1886, Eddie Jensen born February 5, 1888,
Earl Jensen born April 2, 1891,
Jessie Jensen born February 23, 1893. After the birth of their 8th child,
Jessie the Jensens moved to Fort Worth, Texas.
Living in Fort Worth they had their ninth (9) child, Annie Jensen
born March 13,
1894. The Jensens lived in Fort Worth only one (1) year, then returned to
Weatherford, Texas.
This was their last move, they had five (5) more children; Ruby Jensen
born August 29,
1896, Nellie Jensen born November 16, 1898, Henry Jensen born January 9, 1900,
Jonnie Jensen born June 20,
1902 and Otto Jensen born January 26, 1904.
Gus and Amelia had fourteen (14) children eight (8) boys and six (6) girls. They
remained in Weatherford, Texas until their deaths.
Amelia had a
stroke at the age of 59, but lived another 9 years and died at the age of 68 on
June 6, 1927. Gus was 84 when he fell, his health was bad due to prostate
glands problems and old age. He died on July 11, 1940, at 87 years 7
months of age -- 70 years after coming to the United States.
Joseph Fred Jensen was born April 5, 1876 in
Bridgeport, Connecticut. Fred married Georgia Emer, born December 11, 1879
and died October 28, 1955. They had two daughters, Bertha and Babe.
Fred suffered from leukemia and prostate gland problems, he also had a stroke.
Fred died in Weatherford on July 22, 1950.
George Jensen was born October 7, 1878 in Dallas, Texas. George died in
a car accident in Weatherford on March 30, 1922, he had six children.
Lillie Jensen born June 24, 1881 in Weatherford married and had 5 children.
Her husband was Ebb Claunch, he died in August 1924 in Weatherford.
Lillie died at the age of 84 in Weatherford. Lillie had a heart attack shortly after getting up on the
morning of February 14, 1966. Lillie and Ebb had 5 children.
Lucy Jensen was born January 2, 1884 in Weatherford. Lucy married
George Wallace Withers, Sr. in 1908. George was born on February 19, 1878
in Austin, Texas. George and Lucy had seven children.
Willie Jensen was born January 17, 1886 in
Weatherford, Texas. Willie lived to be 15 years and 28 days when he was
killed by his best friend, Henry Mullet, while they were hunting. It was
on Valentine's Day, 1902. Willie still had a Valentine in his pocket for his
girl friend.
Walter Ed (Eddie) Jensen was born February 5, 1889.
Eddie died in Houston of a heart attack on March 28, 1951.
Earl Jensen was born April 2, 1891. Earl had 2 children. Earl died in Weatherford on July 14, 1945 of a brain hemorrhage while out walking on a very hot
afternoon.
Jessie Jensen was born February 23, 1893 in Weatherford and died
November 1990 in Weatherford, Texas. She
married Roy Alexander. Roy was born March 8, 1893 and died December 8, 1968.
Annie Jensen the 9th child, was born March 13, 1894 in Fort Worth.
Annie married John Curtis Current, they had 8 children: Annie died in Fort Worth, April 24, 1972 of
heart disease. John died April 4, 1974.
Ruby Jensen was born August 29, 1896 in Weatherford.
Ruby married S. B. Sisk, Sr. They had 4 children: Ruby remarried
on April 1, 1947 to Wilburn Wilson (born March 18, 1911). Wilburn died
August 27, 1980 and was buried on Ruby's birthday.
Nellie Marie Jensen was born in Weatherford on her father's birthday,
November 16, 1898. Nellie married Henry Eaton on May 13, 1929.
Nellie and Henry had 2 children. Nellie died October
1, 1970 in Houston, Texas.
Henry Frank Jensen was born in Weatherford, January 9, 1900.
Henry Frank (Bud) died in Houston, Texas, November 18, 1956 of heart failure.
After the heart attack his body was not found for 2 weeks.
Johnnie Jensen was born in Weatherford on June 20,
1902. Johnnie died at the age of two months from Bold Hives.
Otto Jensen was born January 28, 1904 in Weatherford.
Otto died in the Veteran's Hospital in Dallas from stomach cancer on February 7,
1955.

Notes:
Gustav and Amelia moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut after they married.
Sometime between April 1876 and October 1878, Gus and Amelia moved to Dallas,
Texas. Between October 1878 and June 1881 the Jensen's moved to
Weatherford, Texas. After the birth of the 8th child on February 23, 1893
(Jessie) the Jensen's moved to Fort Worth where one year later their 9th child
was born (Annie Jensen). In 1895 the Jensons moved back to Weatherford, Texas.
Gus and Amelia remained in Weatherford until their deaths.
Medical Information:
Gustav Adolph Jensen: Gus was 84 yrs old when he fell, his health
was bad due to prostate glands.
Amelia Mayer: Amelia was paralyzed by a stroke at the age of 59, but
lived another 9 years dying at the age of 68.
