Correspondence:
I found this correspondence in the Weatherford Library and thought it
might be of interest.
From correspondence with Florine Westerhover to Mrs. Jewel Lack.
"I need to add more information because I have just talked with Mrs. Jewel
Lack, 410 Pine Street, Millsap, Texas 76066. After seeing the name Lack as
a married daughter's name of Levi M. Current, I decided to call Mrs.. Lack who I
know by reputation as she writes an article "Millsap Mumbles" for the
Weatherford Democrat regularly. Millsap is a small town near Weatherford.
Mrs. Lack is a daughter-in-law of "Mattie" Lack who was listed as a daughter
of Levi M. Current in his obituary. Mrs. Lack said Mattie's name was
Martha Ann and that she actually was a step-daughter of Levi M. Current, but
never knew her father and was raised as his daughter. It seems that Cecil
Andrews and Levi were buddies in the Civil War and Mr. Andrews died during the
war; but before he died, he gave a few personal items to Levi and asked him to
give them to her wife, Emaline, if he ever met her when he got home. Levi
did look Emaline Andrews up (she had 4 daughters - the youngest of whom was
Martha Ann (Mattie) - and a year or so later Emaline and Levi M. Current were
married. Jewel Lack believes that this was Levi M.'s only marriage, and
that he and Emaline had 5 children after they were married.
