Gateway House has achieved international recognition for its successful
implementation of the Fountain House approach to problems associated with mental illness.
As a result of this success, Gateway House is certified by the International Center for
Clubhouse Development as a training base in the clubhouse model of psychiatric
rehabilitation. Since that time Gateway House has hosted over 1,300 colleagues from over
38 states and 12 foreign countries.
Each training program covers a three-week period for the staff person
and clubhouse member. During the third week an administrator from the clubhouse or auspice
agency is required to participate in the training. The administrator is taught the
clubhouse philosophy, as well as the importance of providing support for the program staff
in furthering their efforts to run an effective clubhouse program.
The availability of Gateway House as a training base enormously
strengthens the ability of mental health professionals to respond to the ever-rising tide
of interest worldwide in learning how to implement the clubhouse model.
