The DomeShare Project
The DomeShare Project is an idea for a retreat in the woods of Northern
Maine. The retreat will consist of a small geodesic dome and an organic
vegetable garden on a large, remote tract of land. The dome will be super-insulated
and solar-powered, so it will be very energy-efficient.
Team Members
Members of the DomeShare Project team will accumulate shares in the project,
proportional to their time or money invested. Most of the work will involve
constructing, insulating, and finishing the geodesic dome.
The Payoff
After DomeShare is complete, each member will be entitled to use of the
facilities for a number of days per year. This number will be dependent
on the number of shares owned. Reservations will be taken for up to one
year in advance.
While staying at DomeShare, members will be expected to perform basic
maintenance tasks. These will include housekeeping, tending the garden,
yard work, and exterior upkeep -- in short, the things you would do if
you lived there year-round.
Current Status
The land for the DomeShare Project has been acquired. It consists of 40
acres of picturesque woodland near Springfield, Maine. Springfield is in
Penobscot County, about 80 miles north of Bangor. To get there, take Interstate
90 north to Lincoln, then go east about 15 miles. You will pass through
Lee and finally come to Springfield, which is a tiny town. Take Route 169
North almost to Prentiss. Turn right on Tar Ridge Road. The property is
near the intersection of Tar Ridge Road and North Road. It is identified
in the State of Maine's Bureau
of Taxation records as "Map PE 38, Plan 1, Lot 11.2 and containing
40.48 acres". Here is a Yahoo!
map of the area.
