Summer Vacation 1999
During the week of July 17 - 24, Jane and I stayed at
Creekside
Mountain Camping in Bat Cave, NC. We stayed in a little 2-room log
cabin made by Conestoga Log
Cabins. The cabin had a full bed, two bunk beds,
and a bathroom with shower. We cooked outdoors in a fire
ring, using charcoal and a grill top.
We spent most of the week exploring the local tourist
traps. We climbed lots of mountains, visited lots of craft shows, and ate
a lot of good food. In general, the natural outdoor attractions were much
better than the manmade indoor ones.
Perhaps the toughest climb was the trail to the
radio tower at the top of Mount Pisgah. It is very steep and rocky. Here
are pictures of me and Jane
next to the base of the tower. (The picture of me is embarrassing, since
I was very skinny then.)
Jane, if you're reading this, I hope you are doing
well. I wish you and Jon all the best.
