Hypatia was a second-century Egyptian Neoplatonist philosopher as well as the first notable woman of mathematics.  She became the recognized head of the Neoplatonist school of philosophy at Alexandria.  Her eloquence, modesty, and beauty combined with her remarkable intellectual gifts attracted an enormous number of students.

Our reading society strives to honor Hypatia as a symbol of learning, teaching, and fellowship by selecting stimulating topics and works of our monthly discussion.
