SCH-A310 PC Connection Information:
Welcome to the Samsung SCH-A310 PC Connection information page. On this page I hope to relay all of the information I find about connecting the A310 to a PC through commercially available programs.
If you'd like information about programming the A30 yourself, then please visit the Tech page (here).
As I learn more about the various programs available for connecting phones like the A310 to a PC, I will try to update this page so that everyone in the A310 community can know what I've learned... If any body else would like to submit articles for this page, I would be more than happy to review and post them also.

PCLink:
PC Link is a commercial program that was written by Samsung to interface with their wireless phones. Unfortunately, the AT command set that Samsung uses varies with the phone model. This means that the various versions of PC Link are customized to work with specific phones, and there is not likely to be a "universal" PC Link application...
The PC Link application uses the standard Samsung USB/Serial cable driver to communicate with the phone through a proprietary AT command set.
By searching the web, I've found several different versions of PC Link that can be found on the downloads page (here). I have tried connecting each of these different versions to my A310 with little luck.
Along with several versions of PC Link comes versions of MyAnimator, MyImage, and MyMelody. The MyMelody program uses a file format with a .mmf extension which is a file format called the "Synthetic Music Mobile Application Format" made by Yamaha for mobile devices. The specs can be found on their webpage (here). Samsung phones that use this format must be using the MA-2 format which allows for 16 tone polyphonic sound. They also have a tool for converting other file formats into their MA-2 format that can be found on their page (here) or on the downloads page (here).
It is possible that the A310 has a Yahama chip in it, but it is actually more probible that Samsung just used the MIDI capabilities of the Qualcomm 5100 chip. Why waste money and valuable space on the pc board if you don't have to?
I personally don't care much about animations, so I haven't played with the MyAnimator or MyImage programs to see what they are all about. It doesn't really matter much anyway unless somebody can get a version of PCLink to connect and recognize an A310. Without the PCLink software to transfer the data, the MyAnimator, MyImage, and MyMelody programs are all but useless...
SCHPU:
The well-known SCHPU utility (here) will connect to an A310. This utility uses an "AT" command set to talk to a Samsung 8500 series phone. Unfortunately, the A310 uses a similar but somewhat different set of codes, however some of the capabilities included in SCHPU will work with the A310. Namely, reading of the battery level, manufacturer, signal level, etc... Nothing too exciting...
