Moyers on America net at risk

The USA trails other industrialized nations in high-speed Internet access and may never catch up link here

“Americans pay 10 to 20 times as much as people do in other countries for far less service.”, the U.S. is lagging far behind many other developed nations when it comes to high-speed internet access link here

ask a ninja about net neutrality, too

Our real enemies are not those living in a distant land whose names or policies we don't understand. The real enemy is a system that wages war when it's profitable, the CEOs who lay us off our jobs when it's profitable, the Insurance Companies who deny us Health care when it's profitable, the Banks who take away our homes when it's profitable. Our enemies are not several hundred thousands away. They are right here in front of us... from a speech by Iraq War Veteran

best thoughts I've found on 9/11 five years later are from MSNBC's Olbermann, while speaking of 9/11, here's "scores of threats far more likely to kill an American than any terrorist -- at least, statistically speaking.", and just before this 5 year anniversary: U.S. deaths in Iraq, war on terror surpass 9/11 toll

how could I forget about postin' The World's Largest Catsup Bottle!

September 2005  Once again, the ACLU will be defending religious freedom against those who want to force creationism into our public schools. . . It is all too clear that powerful political forces are not just tinkering around the edges of our religious freedom -- they have set their sights on transforming our country from a constitutional democracy to a thinly veiled theocracy. They want to turn America into a country governed by their interpretation of the Bible (wherein ya can use the F-word!), serviced by faith-based, taxpayer-funded institutions and guided by religious doctrine against which neither citizens nor judges should dare to speak up.

check out what this guy sez about the "Red Cross Money Pit", and they post a refutation on their site!?!?

check out one of my kind friend's site WopJew. . . they're havin' a baby and have posted ultrasound pics

PubSub is unleashing a new site ranking tool, called LinkRanks, that measures the "strength, persistence, and vitality" of links pointing to and from a given Web site.  They have also begun an effort to compile lists of influential Weblogs by category, which could be of use to media buyers and planners eager to buy advertising in blogs. (what category does my blog belong in!?!?)

30 August 2005 recording industry vs. the People hmmm. . . for some strange reason I'm very interested in legal issues today!?!? and I find it sad the eDonkey felt they could win but "threw in the towel' because of legal costs. . . but you go Jane Doe!!

. . . and it looks like we have our first blogger gettin' sued. . . "potential to cause major upheaval in the blogosphere as comments would need to be filtered in cases where there was even the slightest chance someone might sue or find the comment offensive or disagree with it"  Oh man, better get to editin' mine fast . . . gotta go!!!   just jokin' - I'm an American, I believe in this country, and the right to free speech, to me personally (being a jerk), is oh so very much an important protection.  Besides, and if ya haven't noticed, I've been smart enough not to allow you buttheads out there to post comments here.

Great source of free music from Richard Thompson, a very well done site called RTList, ya gotta check out at least one song (has lyrics posted as well). . . do Vincent Black Lightning 1952 - note: in this solo version (yep that is him and him alone, awesome guitarist, too) he includes "Harley's" as motorbikes which "don't have a soul like a Vincent '52"!

Saw Grizzly Man last night . . . what a freak!  I remember this kook, Timothy Treadwell, when he was alive, and was saddened when I heard he was eaten.  Did he still love the bear as it was chewin' on him?  The movie did not answer this question as the creator chose not to include the audio (camera was runnin', but lens cap on, during the attack). . . .that was a very touching part of the movie, as opposed to the staged scenes of the shmucky coroner's animated description (dude, if ya see this, please don't sue me for sayin' that!).  Richard Thompson does a great job on the music, too (duh, the guy's incredible!), oh yeah . . .  its Not for kids, for sure!

Deep Impact is about to happen early in the morning on the 4th (see entry/ links below for Wednesday 12 January 2005). . . here's a guide to assist in observing this event, but note that the "comet might get bright enough after we hit to be seen in binoculars, but more than likely, you'll need to look through a telescope to see it"

Very interesting and controversial paper Death of Environmentalism. . . makes a strong case that modern environmentalism must die in order for a new movement to be born. . . there has not been much progress made towards recognition, much less a solution to our global warming problem.  Here's the Wikipedia article (a very cool, new open-source online encyclopedia. . . ya can click on "edit this page" and add your own comments!) about the Kyoto Protocol . . . scroll down a bit and see our (United States) position on this agreement.

NASA update . . . the Deep Impact mission, which will crash a projectile into Comet Tempel 1 travelling at 37,000km/h, is ready to launch from Cape Canaveral today. It will arrive at Tempel 1 on July 4th and eject a 372kg (washing machine-sized) projectile into its path to blast a deep hole in its nucleus and reveal what lies beneath. "We will be capturing the whole thing on the most powerful camera to fly in deep space," said Dr Mike  The impactor will also carry a camera to take pictures as it hurtles toward Tempel 1, although it will probably be sandblasted in the final minute before hitting the comet's surface. . . and the Mars Rover is still goin', and then the Cassini/ Saturn thing - NASA....a different link here, is so very much kickin' it lately!

Tuesday 11 January 2005 Have ya heard of Alison Krauss!? A beautiful Illinois girl . . . have seen dozens of shows (All Good!) . . .  saw her many times at the beginning of her career in Harman's Auction Barn nearby in a lil town called Shipman, I remember a rainy and chilly outdoor show years ago at 6 Flags with only about 30 fans in attendance (she was kinda crabby and was upset with the people who left. . . actually, it was kinda funny!), and remember a free outdoor show in beautiful weather on the banks of the Ohio River with John Hartford. . . first concert I've ever seen performed "under protest" as they were not aware that the show was in strong support for gambling and they wanted no part of it, and I remember a free concert in our most snooty mall, Plaza Frontenanc (the acoustics were horrible, but still Good as always!).  She not only makes some of the sweetest music around, this sad story shows what a beautiful woman she really is.  Go see her, she's on tour (I can't wait, and will be at the Fox . . . will have to do the buffet dinner before!) and she has a great new CD!

Monday 10 January 2005 very cool text to speech site, just type in your words, and the "puter will say it"!

Bird flu kills another kid . . . ya think the tsunami disaster was bad? . . . WHO estimate: that H5N1 (bird flu) could infect up to 30 percent of the world's population and kill between two and seven million people which is a conservative estimate, the maximum range is more ... maybe 20 to 50 million people (would make horrible tsunami fatality figures seem small) . . . my Grandma remembers the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 which is posited by different investigators to range from 20 million to well over 50 million deaths; here's CDC avian influenza portal
