Current Legislative Assignments

  • Transportation Finance Committee Chair
  • Transportation Policy, Local Government, and Ways and Means Committee Member
  • Legislative Commission on Met Council: This is a commission charged with oversight of the Metropolitan Council. The commission reviews the Met Council’s budget and work plans and makes recommendations. Capitol Area Architectural & Planning Board: This board serves as the planning commission for the capitol area. It is in charge of approving site development and preservation in the capitol area.

Current Community Activities

  • Director of Lakeville Arts Board: This is the fund raising board for the Lakeville Arts Center. It is the responsibility of the board to raise funds for capital projects as well as money to supplement the costs of providing programming.
  • Member of Lakeville Chamber of Commerce: As a small business owner, Holberg has participated in Chamber events since 1994.

Past Activities

  • Assistant Majority Leader: As assistant majority leader, Holberg met with the House Republican Caucus regularly to help lead the caucus on policy and political issues.
  • Stadium Task Force: Holberg served on task force charged with making recommendations to the legislature and governor regarding the state’s role, if any, in funding sports stadiums.
  • Board of Innovation and Cooperation: The purpose of this group is to award grants to local units of government to help fund new and innovative ways of meeting the needs of Minnesota residents. The board also has the ability to waive regulations on a temporary basis if there is a proposal to address a need in a new way.
  • Panel Member of Almanac’s Legislative Freshmen Panel, 1999-2000: Holberg served along with three other House freshmen on the Channel 2 public affairs program, “Almanac,” sharing thoughts on various issues that were being debated at the capitol.
  • House Republican Goals Task Force, 2000: This caucus working group helped to work out priorities and goals for the 2000 session. The task force explored ways to make state government for efficient and accountable.
  • Lakeville City Council, 1996-1998: Holberg’s work on the council included projects such as the Ice Arena Advisory Committee, the Meadow Brook School/Park project, King Youth Athletic Complex and Heritage Commons, among many others.
  • Lakeville Planning Commission, 1989-1995; Chair, 1993-1994
  • Coordinator of Land Amazement Community Playground Project, 1991-1992
  • Lakeville Park Bond Task Force; Chair, 1992: This group of Lakeville citizens representing various recreation interests determined the goals for the 1992 referendum. The successful election led to an expansion of the park system to accommodate the needs of the rapidly growing Lakeville community.
  • American Cancer Society, Volunteer: Holberg served as block leader and in other fund-raising roles.

  • Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists "Peter S. Popovich Award" for preserving freedom of information, 2006
  • Minnesota Family Council and Minnesota Family Institute "Friend of the Family Award" for outstanding legislative service on behalf of Minnesota families, 2005
  • Legislative Evaluation Assembly Honoree: 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, And 1999: Holberg was honored for a legislative voting record that reflected traditional American principles of limited government, free enterprise, legal and moral order, and justice and individual liberty

  • Outstanding Legislator Award

  • Association of Young Political Leaders, Delegate to Turkey, 2000: Holberg was selected from more than 1,000 applicants to participate in a delegation that went to Turkey for two weeks to share information on governance issues. The group of 11, that included state and federal lawmakers and staff, met with Turkish elected and business leaders to hard the challenges a Muslim country faces while nurturing a democratic government.   • League of Minnesota Cities Legislator of the Year, 1999: Holberg was one of two legislators honored for outstanding work on behalf of Minnesota's cities. It is rare for a lawmaker to win the award for freshman service.
