So, you've decided that you definetly want to start your own home based business. You'd like to be with your kids more, fight traffic less, be your own boss. It is possible!

1) It should be something you know how to do and can do well. (Or can learn quickly to do well!)

4) Whether it's a product OR service, you should be able to sell it at a price that will cover your expenses and overhead plus return a sizable profit.
5) Not all businesses will do well in all areas. For example, a wedding consultant might do very well in Las Vegas, but probably not that well in a town of 500.
And remember, you should have anywhere from 3 months to 2 years living expenses saved before you start your own business. If that seems impossible, some other options include: Starting the business part time while still working your regular job, relying on the income of your spouse or partner while in the start up phase, or getting a loan to help start your venture.
