The Mission The Hope Light Project Mission will be accomplished by employing innovative strategies to impact survivorship and save lives by communicating all-cancers information through a 24/7/365, multi-venue, multi-media, high visibility, integrated, collaborative, state-of-the-art technology, nationwide campaign with a lighthouse theme. The Project The Project provides for developing an Integrated Cancer Awareness Database (ICAD) that is the knowledge base and the heart of the Hope Light Project. The Project also provides for developing an Interactive Cancer Awareness System (ICAS) consisting of an interactive web site and a toll-free Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone system for individuals to use in obtaining cancer awareness information relative to specific symptoms and determining next actions. ICAS will permit routing of web site/IVR queries to appropriate cancer organization chat lines or hot lines as requested. Individuals will be requested to provide Zip Codes for use in providing local information on cancer related hospitals, Oncologists and local cancer support groups. Hope Light Cancer Information Centers (CIC’s) are planned for construction in high visibility areas with convenient access. The CIC's will be staffed by volunteers from the local community to include cancer survivors and individuals from local cancer organizations and businesses and oncology professionals. The purpose of the CIC is to provide a comfortable and compassionate environment for volunteers to meet with visitors and direct them to helpful cancer awareness information and resources available to help lighten the burden of cancer. The focus of the CIC is on cancer prevention and early awareness of cancer symptoms, self-exams and screening tests to detect the presence of cancer. |
