My Sharrow family is from Essex Co., NY. So far
I have been unable to link my Sharrow family with any of the other
Sharrow families from other states (like Michigan or Pennsylvannia).
My great-great grandfather was Joseph William Sharrow. He was born about 1830 in Canada, and he married Naomi Elizabeth Gowett on November 08, 1850 at the home of her parents, Abram and Mary Gowett, in Lewis, Essex County, New York.
Joseph William Sharrow was a private in Company K of the 4th New York, Heavy Artillery during the Civil War.
Joseph's parents were Andrew Sharrow and Elizabeth Bombard of Canada. I am trying to track down more information on them and their other children.
My Sharrow family has French Canadian origins and the name may possibly be spelled as Charron in Quebec, Canada. I have also recently seen the name spelled as Chareaux. I have yet to see any direct sources that say this though.
The family may spent a few years in Clinton Co., NY before settling in Essex Co., NY.
My great grandfather, William Henry Sharrow, married Ellen Bertha Shiel, who was from Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, Ireland.
She
immigrated to the U.S. about 1883, but I don't know if she came with
any of her family.
My great grandparents spent some time in Butte, Silver Bow, Montana. This is where my grandfather, Leo Joseph Sharrow, was born on August 29, 1898. To the right is a picture of Leo as a small child.
My grandfather worked in the iron mines in Mineville, NY.
