Panda is short and spare, but very friendly if anyone talks to him, with a wide grin. He tries hard not to be noticed, because he is used to being taunted as a child by others who made funof his birthmark. He was called the “unlucky foal” of his mother and was cast out among the Horoiuchi, until being noticed by Chojuro. He is very earnest about his new position and his responsibilities. His new kimono is very nice, showing three tori arches on different hills (a parting gift from Chojuro).
