The Last Arch - The End of Civilization
The Last Arch lies at the end of the Komichi no Kanashimi (Trail of Woe), the route by which the Ki-Rin (now Unicorn) left the empire following Shinjo on her quest. The arch, built by Hantei to welcome his sister’s return, is now, ironically, the last stop in Rokugan for those who have been sent into Exile. It is carefully guarded and few Rokugani have ever seen it.
The arch itself lies in a rocky mountain stream, between two fairly steep ravine walls. There is no way around this area in the mountains to get through to Rokugan and so this area forms a strategic chokepoint that is easily defended by its stalwart guards. All those leaving the empire must wade a substantial distance during high water, though much of the year it is only shin deep. |
