Revised Map Key - Finding Your Way

The world of Emerald and Jade is constantly changing, as is the canon L5R universe and so it is quite difficult to keep track of places.

The map in the 3rd edition of L5R has numerous errors in it and in Emerald and Jade, we have also modified a number of locations as the result of gameplay. Most of these modifications are for the minor clans and the Unicorn, however, there are some modifications for every clans holdings.

A - Imperial and Minor Clan Lands

Kuda Mura A small village, formerly owned by the Hare Clan but now ruled by Usagi Tanaka, husband of Kitsune Ryosei, Fox Clan daimyo. known among the Hare as “Aoki’s Regret”. This extra-territorial holding is seperated from both Hare and Fox lands by the Plains of Thunder.

The Castle of White Snow North of A4 in the Mountains of Regret is the Castle of White Snow, home to the recently formed Monkey clan.

Shiro no Usagi The Hare clan castle.

Meidochi A farming village at the edge of Hare lands, where much business is conducted using the nearby port of “Hare’s Nose” Island. This village was created in 1126 with the assistance of Yasuki Taka.

Zakyo Toshi “ Pleasure City,” one of the busiest commercial cities in the south. Zakyo is a haven for lechery and vice, kept clean only by the constant presence of an imperial magistrate garrison which polices the lower Kawa no Kin.

Weary TravellerVillage Formerly the Sparrow lands, these lands were devastated by an earthquake in 1126 and the clan relocated. It is now a Crab village, at the end of the northern pass through the Twilight Mountains to Nagai Aruki (CB9).

A small watchtower of the Sparrow guarding the border with Scorpion lands and the road for rice shipments from Shaiga (M7) to Kyuden Suzume (M6).

Tani Hitokage (Valley of the Spirits) As per L5R, only the Falcon clan is further south, north of CB1, in the bend in the Shinomen Forest.

 

CN - Lands of the Crane

Kyuden Otomo Imperial lands in Emerald and Jade, not part of Crane lands.

Aiso ni Ryokosha Mura (FriendlyTravelerVillage) Held by Yasuki Taka, this is not part of Crane lands. Friendly Traveller offers a variety of types of sake and is quite friendly to tourists and has become a popular stop on the road.

 

D - Lands of the Dragon

Kyuden Togashi The chief residence of the Ise Zumi monks.

Kyuden Agasha The chief residence of the Agasha shugenja family, near the Great Forge (D14) in Dragon mountain.

The Great Forge A place where the Dragon forge or destroy great nemuranai.

L - Lands of the Lion

Shiro Matsu (LastBreathCastle) Guards the northern end of Beiden Pass in Emerald and Jade. [Note: Beiden pass connects L18 and S8.]

Toshi sano Kanemochi Kaeru (City of the Rich Frog) Mislabeled "U20" on the map, at the join of the Firefly and Drowned Merchant Rivers. A prosperous city of ronin and merchants, which has remained neutral for hundreds of years. The hub of transport and trade for northern Rokugan.

 

M - Lands of the Mantis and Others

M6

Kyuden Suzume (SparrowClanPalace) Formerly Wasp Clan castle, the Sparrow were granted this land after the earthquake of 1126 destroyed their home. The Sparrow clan "palace" is stark and functional, providing a fortified position that the Sparrow and their heimin can defend in time of war.

Shaiga This quiet village is governed by the Sparrow family now and accounts for the majority of their rice production. A vein of gold there provides additional income. This is the center for most trade between the Sparrow and Fox clans.

Tani Senshio (Valley of the Centipede) Still a minor clan in Emerald and Jade.

S - Lands of the Scorpion

Beiden. A Scorpion castle guards the southern end of Beiden Pass in Emerald and Jade. [Note: Beiden pass (OO) connects L18 and S8.]

 

U - Lands of the Unicorn

U1

The Last Arch and Exile's Road Formerly Badger lands, the near destruction of the clan in 1125 prompted the Emperor to assign the duty of guarding this forboding territory to the disgraced Wasp clan.

U2

Kibukito (FarNorthVillage) This village is the farthest outpost of the Unicorn and contains an active monastery for those studying Shinsei's Tao. There is also some trade with the reclusive Dragon.

U3

Exile's Road Watchtower Formerly a small watchtower, it has been reinforced into a major castle and training grounds for elite Shinjo archery units. A few badger sometimes can be found here.

Shiro Shinjo (FarTravelerCastle) The Shinjo clan daimyo's main residence.

Bugaisha Dojo for the Moto clan bushi school, known for its unorthodox techniques.

U22

Hisatu-Kesu A small village known for its hot springs and preferred by visitors seeking privacy. [Note: Seikitsu pass does not exist between U22 and U29 in Emerald and Jade]

Shiro Moto ( Moto Castle) Facing the River of the Unexpected Hero, samurai stationed at the castle can see for miles around on clear days over the sea of Grass. The Moto White Guard is stationed here, in the event of Shadowlands attack and to guard the Sea of Grass. Heavily armed and armored, they drill and train constantly. For two miles in every direction, the ground is scarred and trampled by the combat manuveurs conducted by the so-called "Unexpected Legion."

ShinomenTower A small watchtower, which guards Chysanthemum Petal Lake and allows sentries to observe all the way to the Shinomen forest to the south and nearly to Miya castle in the East.

FireflyVillage This village on the edge of the Firefly river and on the road to the City of the Rich Frog, is the trade gateway to Unicorn lands and a large variety fo goods can be found here.

U29

OjataraValley A small valley, disputed for some years by the Unicorn and Scoprion, who recently agreed to divide the profits of its diamond mine. [Note: Seikitsu pass does not exist between U22 and U29 in Emerald and Jade]

Major Geographical Features

Seikitsu sano Yama no Oi (Spine of the WorldMountains) This mountain range splits Rokugan into north and south. The Seikitsu mountains contain the tallest peaks in Rokugan, including the legendary Mountain of the Seven Thunders. The trails through it are narrow and fraught with peril. Beiden Pass is the only pass large enough to move army through quickly, while Iuchi Pass (near U19) provides a secondary means of crossing, used primarily by the Unicorn and Miya.

Hanto no Yoake (Peninsula of Dawn) Formerly home to the destroyed Tortoise clan, this peninsula now contains the estates of the Jade Magistrate, who usually resides in the Tower of the Jade Magistrates in Otosan Uchi itself.

OO

BeidenPass The crossroads of Rokugan, the largest and most frequently used pass through the Spine of the World Mountains, contested by the Lion, Crane, and Scorpion for hundreds of years.

WW

Ronin Chiki These plains are heavily guarded by the Three Man Alliance (Fox, Sparrow, Hare) against possible Scorpion incursions. An annual tournament is held here in which ronin (and others) participate. Worhty ronin are sometimes offered service by the three minor clans.
