"Our Flags of America"
Home In America
Welcome to America Alabama, home of Hugh Plylar and family.
America is a small community in Walker County, Alabama It is located 40 miles northwest of Birmingham Alabama.
Our community has it orgins in the early 1800's when the America Coal & Coke Company opened the America mines. From there the small town formed and grew into a good sized town by the early 1900's. The coal mines was served by the Southern Railroad. After the mines closed people began to move away for jobs at other mines in the county and "our" town became a "dead town" as listed in the National Archives.
There are about 30 homes in the area today and is bordered by the town of Parrish Alabama where I finished school.
I was employed with the CSX Transportation Company (39 years) as a freight conductor between Birmingham and Nashville.
My wife is retired also, we have one son, Wayne and two grandchildren.
My hobbies are computers, motorcycles ( I ride a Honda Goldwing motorcycle) and fishing.
