What’s Happening?
The annual Thanksgiving dinner will be held November 18th in Fr. Mike Hall. The school food drive continues through 11/20, please be generous. The global population is topping 6.5 billion; one sixth face starvation daily. If these statistics are applied to HRS it would mean that over 20 of our students would be starving. The donations will be given to the Holy Rosary Food Pantry.
Speaking of food, Mrs. Hanrahan has a new job at M & I Bank in Casco. We will be sad to see her leave, but wish her well. Thanks Kim for all the great lunches! Jayne Conard will be our new lunch lady.
H1N1 shots are still not available for school age children. When vaccinations are available there will be an after school open clinic at Kewaunee HS. The shots will be free.
The HRS web site has been made over, check it out. More information will be added to the page for the church as soon as it comes in. It is best viewed using Internet Explorer. (http://webpages.charter.net/hrosary)
The kids are preparing for their first gig as the “Children’s Choir” on Sunday, 11/15. Mr. Sowinski has prepared them well and Liz Melotte will be with them on Sunday to play and direct.
On December 11th we will once again celebrate a Spanish Mass for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with Bishop Banks. The mariachi band that played last year will also return. Please come to worship with us, it is a wonderful experience.
SCIENCE NEWS From Mrs. Patek
The 8th graders have been very busy this year in science. In the 1st quarter they have tried to walk a constant speed, seen how fast they could run, and determined whether or not cars speed on Ellis Street. This week they observed the effects of air resistance on a falling object. Each student was to make a parachute out of material and string. They then attached a cup which contained a hardboiled egg to their parachute. The parachutes with the eggs were then dropped out of the second floor science room window. Eleven of the eggs were able to walk away without a scratch, but four eggs were in need of medical help. The next project for the 8th grade is to apply Newton’s three laws of motion to make a rollercoaster.
MUSIC NEWS From Mr. Sowinski
Where has Autumn gone!!!
The Holy Rosary Pre K through 8th grade music classes have begun rehearsals for the upcoming Christmas Concert. The Concert will be on Monday, December 21st at 6:30 in the church.
The Middle School Students will be performing songs that will include genres of Big Band Jazz, Celtic, and a touching ballad.
The 3rd & 4th grades will be accompanied on a song by students playing boomwachers and recorders, which should be very entertaining.
The primary grades are sure to liven’ up the show by singing “Hip Hop Turkeys”. This toe-tapping number tells the tale of Tom, who wants the world to know he’s more than just a bird with a funny waddle.
The Beginning and Middle School Bands have been working hard too. Two days a week we have been rehearsing seasonal numbers that are sure to set the mood for the entire concert. We are all excited to make this evening a special event for the Holy Rosary Community.
