Herbie's Biography
Herbie was born in Knoxville Tennessee on October 2, 1957 to the parents of Charles and Pat Sully. When he was two years old, he moved to Graham, North Carolina. He attended Graham High School and played the drums in the Stage Band, Concert Band and Marching Band. In addition, Herbie started playing professionally at the age of 15 with a local Southern Rock band named, "Lord Kearns".  Friend and lead guitarist, Coleman Murphy joined the band shortly thereafter and today works out of Nashville as a recording and performing guitar player with many big Country Music names.

In December of 1973, Herbie moved with his parents to Doraville, Georgia. There he continued his education at Henderson High School and continued in the high school band program.  He also joined another local rock band named, "Milestone" with lead guitarist,
Brendan O'Brien. Brendan is now a noted producer for may top artists and bands like Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam.

After graduating from high school in 1975, Herbie worked as a drum instructor in several high school band camps during the summer, and then joined the US Army in the fall of that same year. He attended the Naval School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia and graduated #1 in his class. He was then assigned to the US Forces Command Band in Atlanta, Georgia in July of 1976 and remained there until October, 1979. While in the Army Band, Herbie performed around the USA with the Concert Band, Stage Band and Army Show Band. Herbie also picked up the Tenor Banjo and played with the Dixieland Band, which on occasion performed during the Atlanta Braves baseball games. While in the Army Band, he also beginning recording music using some old recording equipment he'd aquired.

During 1977, Herbie discovered a need in his life beyond music and began a relationship with Jesus Christ. Herbie began attending church and serving as a musician. After being discharged from the Army in 1979, Herbie began pursuing an education in music at Georgia State University. After just 1 quarter, he decided to change career directions and started attending DeVry Institute of Technology in Electronics. During the next two years, Herbie continued to play as a musician in church and joined two local Christian bands, the Mike Barnes Band, and Mike and
Von Rogers, performing and recording original contemporary Christian music. In mid 1980, Herbie renewed an earlier relationship with keyboardist and vocalist, Mike Milsap who had become a Christian and was playing with Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart (note: Mylon also recorded and performed a song called, "Child of the Father", which was written and recorded by Mike and Von Rogers). We decided to record a demo of original Christian rock tunes.  These recordings took place in the library of an old elementary school building in Sandy Springs that was being used by Calvary Chapel Church. Later that year, Herbie also made some more home brew original recordings in the same library-studio with Mike Rogers and Tory Porter. Around the same time, Calvary Chapel was sponsoring a weekend coffee house and Herbie provided sound engineering on a regular basis for many of the artists and bands. Early in 1981, while still attending college, he played in local band with Bertie Higgins, who had just finished recording his first hit song, "Key Largo."

Then in July of 1981, Herbie met his future wife, Nancy Fryer at Calvary Chapel church one morning. In the fall of 1981, Herbie and Nancy were married. During the first year of marriage, Herbie continued his education and worked part time with a local computer company and played drums on the weekends in a local cover band called Free Flight.

After graduating from DeVry in 1982, Herbie went on to work full time as an Electrical Design Engineer. Over the years, he has designed electronic circuitry for
LT Sound, EMS Technologies, and ARRIS Broadband ranging from professional audio equipment, to space qualified electronics. Herbie has continued to play and record music in various churches and other local groups in his spare time.

Herbie and Nancy now have five children, Jessica, Melissa, Laura, Matthew and Brandon and live in
Suwanee, Georgia. Herbie is currently employeed at ARRIS broadband, attends Perimeter Church.  Today you might find Herbie recording music in his basement studio (Sound Effects Studio) or playing around the area with the Mike Rogers Band, the Dirk Howell Band, the Chinese Fire Drill, the Peachtree Corners Baptist Church Orchestra or at his home church, Perimeter.
