(birthday)
There was a world that I once knew
in the stillness and the simplicity of dawn
Away from the noise and walls
and the glare of the summer sun
Beyond the mountains I make with my knees
drawn up beneath the blankets in the grey
Wishing and dreaming and making plans
that just for a moment I can believe
may come true tomorrow in some way
Above the sky and in my thoughts
warm, making me smile and sigh,
"It's a lovely dream that I'm having,
alone, where no one can see
but after the sun rises with the dawn
of a new day, I know it can never be."
And so disheartened, I turn my thoughts
to sleep, to wait for the next night
when my heart can play unafraid again. |
