Sea kayak to Los Arcos- Puerto Vallarta

Both Dorothy and I believe kayaking out to Los Arcos was one of the most rewarding (and most challenging) experiences while in Mexico. The sea kayak trip actually was very awesome and we kicked butt right through the surf when paddling away from Mismaloya Beach! ( That canoe has paid off again.)

We rented the sea kayak at the water-sports shop right on Mismaloya Beach. The amigos were checking us out and I'm sure they were thinking, "these tourists are shark bait". Ha! Ha! No way, Jose'.
We towed that kayak down to the surf and cut through the breakwater like pros! The waves were a lot bigger than in Puget Sound, but there is no substitute for experience. As we went out into Banderas Bay, the waves were calmer.
The caverns were covered in little spider crabs! The waves near the rocks are dangerous.
Into the caverns...
We checked out each monument. Some of the caverns are too small even for a kayak. I didnt want to get out of the kayak anyway. The rock surface moved. On closer inspection, we saw that the surface of the caverns were swarming with small crabs. Really creepy! Dorothy told me to get out and take a closer look, but I declined.
Hey, there's an echo in here!
Well Dorothy had the camera and I had the sun tan lotion..., and it's a good thing because I lost the suntan lotion over the side somewhere! As we got closer to Los Arcos, the waves got larger, breaking onto the monuments. It was half surfing, half kayaking, but all fun!
Los Arcos is a Mexican national marine park and many tour boats bring scuba divers, snorkers, and tourist out for a look. Kayaking is the best way to experience the caverns, just be in good shape for the paddling. The monuments are also home to many types of marine birds and fish (and yes, sharks, but I couldn't find any that day.)
