Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Valley
Taylor River Hike
We did this hike along the Taylor River with Robin and Perry in early October 2003. The forecast was for fog most of the day, but the sun began to burn through as we reached the trailhead and it turned into a beautiful sunny day as we started hiking. Snoqualmie River Valley - Taylor River Hike - Elevation: 1,200 feet. Middle Fork Rd #56.

The trail begins as an old road and gently climbs along the Taylor River into a serene forest. There are great views of Garfield Peak, old-growth trees, deer fern, bunchberry and elk moss. We had lunch at Otter Falls, a wonderful sloping falls, which Perry and  climbed until it became too slippery.
It begins from the gated Taylor River Road, elevation 1,200 feet. The road is an old logging route that has morphed into a genuine trail. In about a third of a mile, the trail comes to the Quartz Creek Trail junction (left). For Marten Lake, continue straight as the road ascends gently through deep forest. If you are going to Marten Lake, stop just before the Marten Creek bridge at three miles and look for an unsigned trail on the left. It is directly across from a large cedar snag. If you get to the Marten Creek bridge, you've gone too far. We met some hikers who directed us to the trail to a small lake with the gigantic rock cliffs. The falls here were merely a trickle, but still awesome. Yogi had a swim and Crocodile Perry caught a gardner snake to share with all.
