This is a handmade 'peanut butter bird feeder'. Extremely popular with the tufted titmouse and chickadees here in Alabama. We feed them on our deck winter and summer. We had a small plastic one for a long time and it finally just wore out. We looked everywhere for another one - wild bird stores, catalogs, online - didn't find one. SO my dear hubby decided he would make his own and sure enough... this is his finished product. The base is made of cedar with dowel perches. The holes where you put the peanut butter are standard PVC, so it should hold up well. AND, the latest version has the PVC pieces screwed in so hopefully the smart little squirrels will be foiled from removing them :-) There's a screw eye at the top for hanging. This one measures 8-1/2 inches long with two peanut butter holes and two perches on each side. We also have a larger three hole one. We use the store brand of peanut butter and simply fill both holes out to the edge. Excellent as a gift for your bird watching friend. Everyone we know got one for Christmas this year :-) |
