The Soil Food Web
Speaker: Julie Maurer
February 24, 2009
7:00 p.m.
Hostess: Anne S.
Co-Hostess: Karin J.
Most gardeners understand the importance of nitrogen, phosphosur, and
potassium (NPK) to plant health. But truely healthy plants need more
than NPK: they need healthy soil. Healthy soil is full of life, including
bacteria, fungi, small "bugs" and earthworms, otherwise known as the Soil
Food Web. Julie will discuss the roles many different organisms play in creating
healthy soil, and provide some examples of simple steps that gardeners can take
to create healthy soil to support healthy plants.
