Gardening is a journey from motivation to the creation of a unique work of art. What have you learned this year through your summer reading or experiences? To prepare for next year's garden, we will review the past, consider new ideas and learn from the best teachers, each other. We conclude the evening with a business meeting.
October 27, 2009: 'Dwarf Succulents'
Dwarf succulents offer a wide variety of mini-sculptural plant forms. These little gems are easy to grow, and with proper care, can be enjoyed for many years. We will supply everything needed to plant your own succulent in a handmade English clay pot. The meeting requires an extra (reasonable) fee and an RSVP for supplies.
November 17, 2009: 'Holiday Silent Auction'
A goods and service auction to get into the holiday spirit. Show your time, talents or treasure for everyone to bid on. Some suggetions include home-made or bought items, gift certificates, gift baskets, baked goods, garden books, etc. This is always a lot of fun and can help you get started on your Christmas shopping. Bring or invite a friend to take part in this fun occasion.

January 23, 2010: 'Brunch at the Traverse Pie Company'

Come and join your garden club friends after the holidays. Get caught up with the news while enjoying a delicious brunch with your favorite brew of coffee or tea. This year we'll meet at the Grand Traverse Pie Company at 9 a.m. where you will find many choices of coffees, teas, and brunch foods. Parking is easy, too, especially if it's a snowy morning. We'll congregate in the back room where we can speak openly and hold a short business meeting.
February 23, 2010: 'Planning Session at Whiting Forest'
This meeting is a very important one, as we will be planning two very significant events. First, in 2010, we will be celebrating our 30th Anniversary as Evergreen Garden Club and we will want to make this a very special celebration. Then, in Spring 2011, we will be hosting the District Meeting for District 6. Part of hosting the District meeting requires us to provide favors for all attendees. Therefore, a portion of this meeting will be spent creating these favors keeping in mind all of the concepts learned in flower arranging. Sooooooo bring your best ideas as to what will make these memorable events for our club.
March 30, 2010: 'Special Definition in Landscape Design'

Midland's Scott Lasky of Laskape Design and Landscape, Inc will help us think more about Òthe big pictureÓ in our landscape projects. We will explore the role that structural framework plays in creating a pleasing design. Scott will share photos of s ome of his design work and will also have time to entertain questions. We conclude the evening with a business meeting. Quote suggestion:ÒWhen used artfully, stone simply belongs, absolutely and intrinsically, wherever it is placed. When the synchrony is perfect, plants growing in the company of stone appear completely natural and at home.Ó
April 27, 2010: 'Butterfly Gardening: A place for all beneficial insects'

Join us for an evening of butterfly gardening with an expert on all beneficial insects, and why they should be in your gardens. Elly will discuss plants in a butterfly garden, how they are chosen, and how they work. She will also discuss the roles of all beneficial insects including pollinators, predators, and parasitoids. Elly promises to make the evening fun and informative. We conclude the evening with a business meeting.
May 25, 2010: 'Plant Auction and Installation of Officers'
It's again time for our annual plant auction. This is a great opportunity to share your favorite plants with others, while adding to our club coffers. Please label your plants with their Latin/common name, along with preferred planting location, color and mature height. Garden statues or other garden items are always fun to bid on. There are great deals to be had. Please feel free to bring your neighbors and friends. A brief business meeting will include installation of officers. Please bring a lawn chair, as we will be meeting outside.
June 22, 2010: 'Jahn Cabin Tour'

Please join us for a relaxing evening getaway from "the big city" and enjoy a tour of the Jahn Cabin on Wixom Lake. The land was purchased in 2003 and cleared, with the cabin roughed in by a contractor from a drawing we sketched. Husband Don did all the finish work, including custom oak cabinets. Susan decorated the cabin in a romantic style with lots of flowers in hand-sewn curtains. Flowerbeds complete the outside with hardy flowers, including day lilies, which may be in bloom for the meeting. Members will bring cut flowers from their gardens that we will work into a flower arrangement. We will conclude the evening with a business meeting.
July 27, 2010: 'Beyond Plants: Hardscape in the Garden'

Hardscape can include just about anything else in the garden that doesn't grow, but usually serves both a practical and aesthetic function to create the overall look you want your garden to take on. As for cost, tuteurs, bird baths and arches, for instance can range from low budget to very expensive. Cheryl Weeks-Rosten will talk about this added dimension of gardening by showing examples in her own garden. We conclude the evening with a business meeting.
August 31, 2010: 'Bee-lieve it or not'
Learn one bee from another, some un-bee-lievable facts about bees, and information about CCD, colony collapse disorder. It'll be a honey of an evening. We conclude the evening with a business meeting.
