Stormgate Communications has adopted the "donationware" model for its products.
What does this mean?
All of the applications available
from our website are full-featured and un-restricted versions.
Should you decide that it is valuable, a donation would be appreciated.
So, is this tax-deductible?
No, sorry. We are a for-profit business. In this context "donation" just means "voluntary".
Why donationware?
Our ability to keep our Palm products current is pretty minimal at this point. We didn't want to stop making them available (we think they have some value). Hopefully this model will let people who like them use them, and we can get some compensation for the effort that went into creating them.
What do I get for my donation?
Well, mainly, a warm sense of being
a good person.
Depending on the donations we receive, updates may or may not be forthcoming.
You should donate based on what the application does today as opposed
to what you expect/hope it will do in a future release. Why? Because there honestly
may not be a future release.
Is this program going to nag at me until I scream and delete it?
No! Reminder screens will remind you to make a donation (if you like the application and find it useful). These screens provide three options:
Donate -- tell the application you donated, and the reminders go away forever. The "About" screen will reflect the fact that you donated.
Never Donate -- tell the application you don't plan to donate, and the reminders go away forever. We understand, we really do.
Remind Later -- after a period that
you select, the application will remind you again about donating (or not donating
as the case may be). This alows you to really use the application before deciding
to Donate or Never Donate.
Our theory is that most people are like us - if we use some donationware, and
we like it, we'll donate unless we forget. This makes it easy to be reminded,
but without the incessant nagging that some programs present.
