About

This utility lets you convert your logbook entries from the Palm to a standard CSV (comma separated value) file which can be imported into almost any spreadsheet or database software.
The conversion tool let's you be sure your logbook data is backed-up and ensures that any data you store using AvLogbook is always available in a format that is possible for other programs to read.

The conversion utility also lets you convert from a properly-formatted CSV file back to the Palm database. New user of AvLogbook who have existing logbook data on their PC just need to export it to a CSV file (with the correct field placement etc.) and then use this utility to import it into AvLogbook.

NOTE: These utilities are provided on an "as-is" basis. Our goal is that they are usefull to those customers who need some level of PC-based file conversions. These utilities are NOT tested on nor do they support all PC platforms. Bottom line: If these utilities are an important part of your purchasing decision, make sure they work for you on your PC before buying our software. These utilities will work woth the "trial" versions of our software.

Download AvLogbookConverter 2.10 and the Java JRE (see below)

To use this software, you will need a Java Virtual Machine installed on your computer. This is free from Sun for several types of computers. To download Sun's JRE, go to their website at the above link and download the JRE for the Windows, Linux, or Solaris operating systems.
The Apple Mac OS X appears to come with the needed Java 2 JRE already installed, but this platform has not been tested by Stormgate Communications.
Versions of the JRE for various other operating systems may be available from web sites dedicated to those systems. You will need at least JRE version 1.3.0.

User Manual

The User Manual is contained in the above download, and it can also be read online.

Why Java?

The main reason we use Java to deploy our utility software is to provide support for platforms other than Windows. (e.g. Linux, Mac OS.). The cost involved to support each of these platforms with a non-Java program would be prohibitive, resulting in support for only the largest platform, which (today at least) is Windows.

By using Java we don't leave non-Windows Palm users out in the cold, as long as their platform of choice has a fairly current release of the Java JRE available for it.

We realize that many of our customers don't have a JRE already installed on their computers and hope that the extra step that may be needed to download and install the JRE is a reasonable tradeoff for the wide platform support that Java allows.
