Upside Down #7
Pele is the volcano goddess in Hawaii. Tori says, "The record goes into relationships, archetypes even, Lucifer, Jesus, etc., et al. Relationships with your brother's friend, relationships with that boy you had a crush on the first time, even the first time relationships with the guy that you were seeing last night."

Boys is basically the men. The album talks about the men that Tori as come in contact with ... "the descent of a woman to find her shadow side." But, in general, "Boys for Pele is the lessons that have brought me to my own fire, the goddess of creation and destruction. That's what the album is about."

"To me this is a trilogy: Little Earthquakes, Under the Pink, Boys for Pele it's a trilogy child. It could go horribly wrong. I could pick up the sitar and make my sitar record and there you go. And write only about ketchup, fair enough, right?"

The album cover was shot in Louisiana. I heard the photo's where taken practically next door to where I was and I could kick myself for not knowing.

All lyrics are written by Tori Amos.
