White shoal sailing club 2009 Series has been scheduled. See Calendar for race dates.
If you have not registered your boat with us, please register on our application page. If you do not have an official PHRF handicap, we will assign a handicap based on the information on the form. Your unofficial handicap may be adjusted (between series) based on actual finish times reported by skippers so that everyone has a fair chance. Trophies will not be awarded. This is for fun, right?
Most races are scheduled for Saturday. By registering, you will be added to our email distribution list (gpsbug@freelists.org) If you intend to race on a given Saturday, address an email to that list so that other skippers will know who is planning to race. Final coordination will be between skippers in the starting area. In general, we will follow the instructions below. Races will be in the general vicinity of the old White Shoal light structure. Courses will be as agreed to by the skippers prior to the start, using the marks on the race course. Generally, races will start at mark “S” at the entrance to the Pagan River. Skippers should coordinate via hailing and/or VHF channel 71.
Races will start promptly unless postponed. Warning will be at 10:30 AM, Preparatory at 10:35, and start at 10:40. All according to GPS time, adjusted for Daylight Savings. Boats must start within ten minutes of the starting time.
There is no entry fee. A “pot-luck” social is usually planned for late winter. All boats will start together and sail the same course, but spinnaker and non-spinnaker boats will be scored separately. In order to be scored, skippers must e-mail me their finish times prior to 6PM on the Sunday after the race. Your e-mail should have: (1) Your finish time in hours, minutes, and seconds, (2) The name of the boat finishing just ahead of you (if any), and (3) The name of the boat finishing just after you (if any). I will apply handicaps and post results on the website.
Skippers,
Register your boat here. To enter your boat, follow this link to the entry form and mail the entry fee to me. I need them at least one week before the series begins. Let me know if you need crew and/or if you are willing to take on a novice crew member. Thanks.
Crew,
To sign up as crew, just sign up for club membership. There is no fee. Please rate yourself as novice, journeyman, or expert. There is no membership fee.
We will arrange a few crew training days during the season. The crew training day will be designed to provide basic familiarity with the types of boats we use, the basics of sailing, and what specific crew duties are.
