Update on the Cabin Fever Show

The show was held on January 12th & 13th at the Expo Center.  The club had two (2) cars entered which were Steve & Crystal Lorah and Gary & Kitten Rudman.  Of the six (6) cars in the “late model Mustang open” class, they took 1st and 2nd place.  Steve says that we have cars in the club that could dominate this show but we need more representation.  Congratulations to Steve, Crystal, Gary and Kitten on their awards.  Also, they talked to the folks that put on “The Forge Musclecar Classic” show.  It will be at the new Kingsport Convention Center (Sept. 12-14)??? We will have to check on these dates to make sure.  The show will be open to the public for 1 day only – Saturday September 13th.  They are going to try and put together some special rates for the club to get in and see the cars and set aside a place outside for us to park since this year’s theme is Mustangs.  We will check into this and keep everyone updated; it might make a nice day trip for the club.

Club Dues for 2008

I just wanted to remind everyone that it’s time to pay your club dues for 2008.  The dues are $20.00 for single and $35.00 for a couple.  We will collect dues at the next meeting which is on Thursday, February 7th, 2008 at 6:30 pm at Courtyard Grill on Alcoa Hwy.  I hope to see everyone at the meeting.

Upcoming Show or Events

It’s almost show time again!  If anyone has any information on any shows or events please let Shelly know and she will put them in the newsletter and on the Upcoming Events schedule.

I have a flyer for the Schaad Lumber Spring Car Show on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm.  I will bring copies to the meeting on Thursday (February 7, 2008).

Update on the 3rd Annual Smoky Mountain Mustang Club Christmas Party

December 8, 2007 was a wet foggy day, but nothing stops the SMMC from having fun. Festivities began around 2:00 pm when some of our more adventurous members engaged in a game of Laser Tag. For those of you that are unfamiliar with this game, you put on a vest with light receptors and are given a weapon that shoots laser light when you pull the trigger. You then run around in a dark, smoke filled maze and try and shoot your friends. I’m not sure who won, but there was a lot of laughing and more than a little back shooting. Following that it was time to hit the links and play a round of golf. If, it was just miniature golf, but the competition was just as fierce as the Masters. I’d like to see Tiger Woods get the ball through the rotating windmill on the 18th hole with less than a double bogey.

Having completed the activities portion of the day, everyone descended on to Logan’s Roadhouse in Pigeon Forge. We had 38 people attend, it was loud, crowded and in spite of the weather everyone was in the mood for a good party. One of the waiters asked who had the fastest car. Hands shot up like ICBM’s being launched from underground missile silos, and there was a good natured debate about the pros and cons of every model of Mustang in the club. As you might expect, with everyone ordering off the menu, dinner was chaos. Waiters could not remember who ordered what, so they would yell out what was on the plate and someone would claim it. I think some of us forgot what we ordered and just listened for something that sounded good and shouted out: “That’s Mine!” The only one that seemed to get the short end of the stick was Jamie Estes. He got the smallest steak I have ever seen, and then he ordered a desert that came in a bucket not much bigger than a shot glass. When he looked at his meager portions he pounded the table with his fists and proclaimed: “Fe Fi Fo Fum! Hey I feel like a Giant”. This from a man wearing a red velvet Fedora that looked like it belonged to one of Santa’s Elves or a Super fly wannabe from the 1970’s. Robin MacIntyre took one look at Jamie and started laughing so hard she almost choked on her iced tea. Jamie has that effect on a lot of people.
Having eaten, it was time for the annual gift exchange. Everyone drew numbers and then when your number was called you could pick an unopened gift or take one from someone that had already opened their gift. There were several gifts that changed hands more than once, but like the food everyone got something before it was all over. There were some members that weren’t through celebrating and decided to parade their cars through Gatlinburg. Personally I think they were just using that as an excuse to kill time until they made room for some ice cream at Mel’s Diner.

A Note From Rick Meckstroth – Our Virtual Club Member:
Rick wanted everyone to know that if anyone needs air conditioning assistance on their Mustangs or other cars that he has experience and tools for that system, including suction and discharge pressure gauges, an R134A refrigerant leak detector and a vacuum pump to pull down the system to get all the moisture out of the lines before re-charging the system. That’s not necessary if the system was never totally depressurized.
He would also be glad to help anyone install new brake pads and rotors. His fee if $20.00 plus parts, per job. He also repairs two stroke engine devices, like blowers and weed eaters, same fee arrangement. If anyone needs any of this type work done, please contact Rick at the following numbers:

Mustang 45TH Anniversary Celebration

Just to let everyone know, the Mustang 45th anniversary celebration will be Friday thru Sunday, April 17-19 2009 at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama, just outside of Birmingham. We had several club members who went Barber last year and had a great time. The facilities there are immaculate and we had a great time running on the track.

A Note of Thanks

I would like to send out a sincere and very special thank you to everyone in the club for all the flowers, cards, phone calls, thoughts and prayers that you sent to me when my Mom passed away. You all have been like family and I appreciate everything that you have done. Thank you again, Shelly Lynn.
