Last winter Jan spent many pre-dawn hours in front of a warm flickering fire. This brought to mind how ancient people spent hours looking at cave walls, perhaps seeing figures in the colors, cracks and shadows. Could the first artist have taken a stick from the fire and traced what he saw on the wall so others could see it as well?
Inspired by these thoughts and pictures of cave paintings from Altamira, Spain, Jan decided to paint images from the shadows around her.
