2004 Mt. Whitney Trip
Uncle Tom and I set out for our climb on June 24th. Here we are at the trailhead. Donna, Tom's girlfriend, climbed with us to Lone Pine Lake. She later returned to the camp site. |

Here we are a few hours into the hike. Mt. Whitney is blocked by the mountains behind us. We're approximately at 9000ft. |
This is Lone Pine Lake. It was one of the most beautiful places along the trail. We stopped here and ate a quick lunch of power bars and granola. |
This was further up the climb,
past Lone Pine Lake. The green trees and meadows were amazing. Notice the trekking poles! These are a must have for these type of hikes! |
This was our trail camp. We chose to camp up on a ledge above most other campers. This was the view. |
This was taken the morning of our summit climb. you can see a greed and blue tent in the lower portion to give perspective. Whitney was the tallest peak on the ridge. |
This is on the back side of the mountain ridge. The lake below is called Guitar lake for obvious reasons. The air was really thin up here! |
We're getting closer to the peak. Uncle Tom is crossing one of the areas where snow remained. |
We made it! This is at the peak. The building behind us was built in 1909 to study weather. |
Standing on the peak was awesome! I'm higher than any other peak in the lower 48 states! |
