(A.K.A.: A good reason not to join Bally Holiday Health)

(A Big Thank You to everyone who e-mailed me with their similar Bally horror story! Heck, I've even gotten emails from people who were just happy about someone taking on a big corporation! There seems to be no shortage of folks who've had problems with this lousy company... see new links at the bottom of this page!! Including one who has links to several legal cases with BTF! Apparently Bally also sued someone who had a "Bally Sucks" page and Bally lost, I feel so reassured of my free speech rights). I still get letters currently, let me say up front: I'm not looking to get involved with anyone's crusade...this is just my personal rant!

Normally I'm not all that negative (really, I'm not!) and I'm not so crazy on this topic to actually spend money on the domain name (though the thought crossed my mind). So this is just my place to vent to the world when someone (in this case: Bally Holiday Health Clubs) screws me over.

When I moved to from RI to Massachusetts (several years ago...we're in NH now), I noticed there weren't any locations of this chain of health clubs nearby so I decided I would cancel my membership. Several letters and phone calls later, they tell me that there is one nearby. Apparently their definition of nearby is (and I quote) "25 miles or less". Who the hell is going to drive that far to go workout?! Well, not me. So I wrote them back and said "No more money for you". After 30 days the daily collection calls started (gee, thank you Davox Corporation for making those fine auto dialers....) and the threatening letters reminding me that they will gladly trash whatever credit rating I may have. I finally caved in and sent the scumbags money to payoff my "initial membership" (Just a short two year commitment...@32.00/month).

The lesson of the story...read the fine print (all several pages of it) and don't cave to the high pressure sales pitch. Oh yeah, one more thing...Bally sucks!
