           Field Thirds

We play a 4-4-2 system:

Goalkeeper - Starts the offense by kicking long and wide.  Plays out to the top of the penalty area when ball is in offensive third.
Sweeper - Controls the defense, and is always the last defender. Does not mark any particular player.  Sweeps up attacks that make it through the backs and clears ball long.
Stopper - Responsible for marking the center forward of the other team, about 10 yards in from of the sweeper. On offense distributes the ball to the midfielders or plays long balls over the opponent's defense.
Left/Right Fullbacks - Mark the opponent's left and right forwards.
Left/Right Midfielders - Wins balls in the midfield and gets it forward.  Plays defense against opponent's midfielders.  Makes runs down the outside and crosses to the forwards.
Left/Right Center Midfielders - Wins balls in the midfield and passes wide and deep, or over the top of the defense to forwards running into space.  Tries to stop or slow down opposing plays before they get to the defensive line.  May play one in front of the other (offensive and defensive).
Forwards - Play together about 10-15 yards apart.  Work together to beat the defense.  Rarely come behind the halfway line. Make occasional runs to the corners or check back to receive balls from the midfielders.  Try to win the ball from the defenders.
