Fast Footwork Drills

Fast footwork drills help you develop touch and quick foot moves to get away from pressure or beat an opponent.  Following are some drills that can be done on your own, and you only need to spend a few minutes each day practicing them.  You will be a much better player if you have good footwork.  For all these drills:  1) have your weight forward, 2) bend your knees, and 3) work on keeping your head up.  Start slowly.  There are short video clips showing each drill (less than 1mb):

#1 - The Foundation -- Soft touch the ball back and forth with the inside of the feet. #2 - Side to Side Push-Pull -- Soft touch ball back and forth with inside of feet, push ball forward with one foot and pull it back the sole of the opposite foot.  You are making triangles, alternately right and left. #3 - Pulling the V -- Push the ball forward and pull it back the sole of the foot while turning and then take the ball with the inside of the same foot.  Do 2 Foundation touches then pull the V in the other direction. #4 - Side to Side Step-On -- Roll ball to outside with the sole by stepping lightly on the ball, then tap ball back to the inside with the inside of the foot.   Try with and without Foundation touches.
