Team Development Plan for Fall 2004 through Spring 2005

Team Goals

Player Development - achieving proficiency in the technical and tactical topics appropriate for U12.

Style of Play

Defense - high pressure man-marking in the back two-thirds of the field, always keeping numbers behind the ball.

Offense - counterattacking with direct play to forwards from the midfield.

We will use a 4-4-2 formation with a sweeper.  Having a sweeper allows close man-marking.

Training Focus

Technique - with individualized homework to supplement team training.

Group Tactics - offense & defense up through 2v2 tactics.

Specific topics as determined by game analysis.

Training Schedule

Regular training sessions twice weekly beginning 2 weeks pre-season.

Supplemental goalkeeper training before selected regular training sessions and using NYSA GK clinics.

Supplemental training during the summer and winter.

Player Evaluations

Pre-season to determine positions and homework plans.

Post-season to evaluate progress and suggest post-season training.

U12 Technical and Tactical Proficiency

Receiving - able to reliably control and redirect with all body surfaces.

Passing - able to pass accurately and with correct pace using inside of either foot and strong foot instep up to 15 yards.

Dribbling - able to run with the ball at full speed and to execute one full speed move to beat a defender.

Heading - able to reliably make defensive, offensive, and flick-on headers under light pressure.

Defense - able to reliably breakdown and not get beat 1v1 except occasionally by the best attackers.

Finishing - reliably beat keeper 1v1 with low passing shots either foot, reliably block low crosses onto goal.

Crossing - reliably execute early and late crosses at full speed with strong foot.

Tactical

2v1 offense - reliably execute wall passes, overlaps and takeovers to beat defenders, both as 1st and 2nd attackers.

1v2 defense - correctly position to delay attack and isolate 1st attacker.

2v2 offense - execute wall passes, overlaps and takeovers to beat defenders, both as 1st and 2nd attackers.

2v2 defense - correctly position and communicate as both first and second defenders.

off-ball runs - recognize when to check to ball and make runs to space in support of attacking play.

recovery - correctly react to loss-of-ball and make defensive recovery runs
