OK - North Medford was a solid performance, despite it being a loss on the scoreboard. We created chances, we possessed well, we held up to some physically solid (though not dirty) play and conceded two goals to a 4a school picked to win their league and to advance into the playoffs. Their first goal was a defensinve breakdown, though not a bad one, nor one which we cannot adjust easily in the weeks leading up to league play. Their second goal was well earned, hitting both posts and cleaning up a lose ball on the third touch (though did it go in off Jac's head? maybe - doesn't change the complexion of the goal)
0-2 LKlamath test us with speed against our backs, but we possessed the bulk of the contest, and our combination play was effective and composed. Very nice goal from Hallie with an insurance touch from Marci (wisely taken, given the non-goal on the other field in the same time slot).
1-0 WAshland was undermanned and will have different personnel available when we see them in a few weeks. The surface will be very different, too, but they are a fun opponent and we may have helped them to discover a sound GK for their season (kudos to Ally Yant, very solid work back there, girl). Our goals were a combination of what makes soccer soccer - Riley's was a combination of skill and fortune - it was a well-struck ball, on frame, took a good bounce (thanks to that HARD end of the field) and when all was said and done, was in the net. Was it a thing of beauty? not really, but we'll take one of those every single match and NEVER complain, won't we? Marci's was simply composure in the final third. Nice ball to space, good speed to create the 1v1 w/ the GK and resisting the urge to blast it to Little Butte Creek and instead just tap tap tapparoo.
2-0 WThe adjustments during the day to personnel needs (ankles and ribs and asthma, oh my!), the scheme adjustment for the defense was very nice, the work of the midfield , the workrate in the NMed game, and the goalkeeping (Jac's pursuit v N Med, breakaway stops, and distribution - Ashley's outside of the box effort v KU, distribution, and composure)
Bravo Pirates!
