crossposted at OregonLivePhoenix opened Dist 6 play at Rogue River with a convincing 5-0 win, though there were still some kinks to work out for the Bucs. Junior captain Marci Klimek tallied 3 goals and assisted a 4th. Freshmen Megan Burr notched a pair two minutes apart to put the game out of reach 15 minutes into the second half.
Scoring:
Klimek (PHX) UA, 2nd
Klimek (PHX) A E Burr, 39th
M Burr (PHX) UA, 54th
M Burr (PHX) A Klimek, 56th
Klimex (PHX) UA 80+
Shots on Goal: Phx 18, RR 0
The Chieftain Keeper registered 8 saves, 3 of which were phenomenal - a point blank snuff of a Klimek breakaway, a diving parry on a driven shot at the post from distance, and a wrapup at the end of a pingpong moment in front of goal really stood out.
Rogue River has decent depth for the first time in recent history, with 21 players dressed. Several of their first 11 showed skill and polish that hint they may suprise a team or two during the 14 game schedule.
